A consistent and and instantly recognisable identity for the flagship Dutch channel Ned 1.
Nederland 1 is the first national television station in the Netherlands. It offers a range of news, current affairs and family programming, attracting high viewing figures.
In 2003, we won a five way international pitch to rebrand the three television channels offered by the Dutch Public Broadcasting Corporation: Nederland 1, 2 and 3.
The identity for Nederland 1 had suffered through many years of continual change. We realised that only one element of the identity had survived each redesign, a diamond. We wanted to retain the familiarity and heritage of this visual property and create something that would endure over time.
The refined ‘diamond’ became the central device that glued the organisation and all of its television and radio channels together and 10 years later it is still going strong.
The on air idents for Nederland 1 feature the now famous Ned 1 diamond swirling and flocking over typically Dutch landscapes. The logo is the constant companion in the daily life of the Dutch people.
Over the years we have continued to produce further sets of idents to continually refresh the channel identity. The Ned 1 diamond is now instantly recognisable as the face of the nations’ most loved channel.
